Respiratory Pyramid Interface: Understanding the RPI Research and Its Limits
The Respiratory Pyramid Interface (RPI) is Serdar Efe's conceptual framework for viewing respiratory mechanics together. This page introduces the published work for international readers and explains how to distinguish the research proposal from a validated clinical decision system. What the paper proposes The 2026 Perspective article brings flow, pressure and volume into a shared visual framework, combining elastic, resistive and obstructive components. It discusses mechanical-power components, the Pyramid Asymmetry Index and a pressure-based expiratory-time-constant surrogate, τ_est. Eleven simulated scenarios illustrate the framework. They are hypothetical examples, not a patient validation cohort. The article presents RPI as hypothesis generating. Prospective validation is needed before the framework and proposed indices can support clinical decisions. The illustrated software uses fixed vertex positions and colour regions; readers should not assume that the displayed edge len...
